Jury awards $1.25M in fatal shooting by off-duty officer

Is this article taking a shot at the City for this verdict?  Read the article below.  Two thugs are dead and it only cost taxpayers $1.25 million.  Sounds like a victory to me. The Plaintiff was probably asking for $10 million.  What is wrong with our jury system?   Do juries think taxpayer money is just there to be given away?  Your thoughts in the comments.

Also, congratulations to the City lawyers who fought for this victory. I bet they saved the City millions.

The Media Is Up To It Again!

http://news.yahoo.com/iran-ships-approached-u-vessels-gulf-000624748.html

This is more about national media than Chicago Media, but what the heck.  Read this article.  Is the media trying to report on routine Navy actions to get people angry and generate revenue?  Does hate sell?  Do Americans favor going to war with Iran?  Post your thoughts.

What's Wrong With This Picture?

Becky Schlikerman, a Tribune Reporter, covers the accidental shooting of a 6 year old boy. What's wrong with this picture? Is the media going too easy on the mother? The mother obviously had knowledge that the 13 year old kid had access to guns. Does this set off alarm bells in most households?

Read the article below and let us know what you think.

Nothing To Report

Nothing interesting happened today.  Nothing happened that is important.

If the media was honest, this would be their headline at least once a week!  The talking heads keep on talking.  What do you think?

Is Recognizing a Palestinian State A Good Thing?

In my personal opinion, Neil Steinberg is a great columnist.  Today, he writes an interesting piece on the Israeli/Palestinian issue. It is important to point out that Neil is not only a liberal but also Jewish. (In case you didn't already know.)  It is also important to note that I am not taking sides on the issue.

However, in writing this column, has he inadvertently reached past his own inherent bias and made an excellent point about the Palestinian application to be recognized as a sovereign state before the United Nations?  By his logic, if being recognized by the United Nations as a sovereign state means anything, then the Palestinian State would have to recognize the Israeli state right?  Is he then in favor of a Palestinian State?
